چکیده

Background Accurate estimation of right ventricular (RV) measurements is important in the clinical assessment of patients with pulmonary hypertension and has a potential role as an end-point in clinical trials. However, there is no clear agreement as to how RV mass measurements should be performed. RV mass is traditionally measured in diastole even though RV musculature is known to be thicker in systole as compared to diastole. The aim of this study was to determine the reproducibility of RV mass measurements in patients with pulmonary hypertension in both systolic and diastolic phases of the cardiac cycle.

Comparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method

Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...

Evaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia

Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...

Adverse ventricular–ventricular interactions in right ventricular pressure load: Insights from pediatric pulmonary hypertension versus pulmonary stenosis

Right ventricular (RV) pressure overload has a vastly different clinical course in children with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (iPAH) than in children with pulmonary stenosis (PS). While RV function is well recognized as a key prognostic factor in iPAH, adverse ventricular-ventricular interactions and LV dysfunction are less well characterized and the pathophysiology is incompletel...

Diastolic Bulging of the Interventricular Septum Toward the Left Ventricle

Diastolic bulging of the interventricular septum (IVS) toward the left ventricle was observed by real-time cross-sectional echocardiography in three patients with primary pulmonary hypertension and one patient with secondary pulmonary hypertension after closure of an atrial septal defect. M-mode echocardiography showed a characteristic abnormal pattern of septal motion in diastole and in systol...

Evaluation of Advanced Echocardiographic Parameters of Right Ventricular in Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension

Background and Objective: Pulmonary hypertension is an increase in blood pressure of the pulmonary artery which leads to right ventricular dysfunction. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare echocardiographic parameters in the study of right ventricular failure in patients with pulmonary hypertension. Materials and Methods: In the present descriptive cross-sectional study, data were col...
